The Method Weight loss
Can ab exercises burn belly fat?
No. Fat comes off through the deficit, not from the muscle you train.

What most people miss
Training a muscle does not draw fat from the skin over it. Across 13 studies and 1,158 people, fat over a trained limb fell no more than fat over the untrained one.1 A single small study has argued otherwise, and it stands alone.
The belly has been tested directly. Seven ab exercises, five days a week for six weeks, made no change to belly fat.2
None of that makes ab training pointless. The trunk braces a heavy lift, a carry and the climb up off the floor. It is simply not a fat-loss tool, and belly fat comes off the way all fat does, through the deficit.

From the floor
Trunk work stays in the program for the lifts it supports, not for the waistline. Fat loss is planned through the deficit, the pace and the lifting.
