Personal training after injury or surgery in Vancouver
Cleared, then coached. Alongside your surgeon or physiotherapist, never instead of them.
Before anything else. We are on the second floor, about 18 stairs up, with no elevator. If stairs are not possible for you yet, call us first and we will be straight with you.
Discharged is not the same as done.
When physiotherapy ends, the strength often has further to go. The research on the knee shows how far. We are coaches, not physiotherapists: we do not diagnose and we do not treat. Once you are cleared, we build the strength your clinician will test.
How it works
Your clinician sets the limits, we train inside them
Cleared
Your surgeon or physiotherapist clears you for exercise. Bring their limits in writing, or their notes. We keep them on file.
Point Zero
An hour with a coach. We take your history, see how you move inside those limits and, with your permission, contact your clinician so our plan matches theirs.
Coached
Every session with your coach beside you. Every set logged in the Vanguard app, so your clinician can see exactly what you did between appointments.
If a set looks wrong, it stops. You go back to your clinician before we go on. New to Vanguard? Point Zero is free.
What we train
All of you, not just the part that was hurt
- The side that was hurt
- Loaded a little more each week, inside the limits you were given, one side at a time where they allow it.
- Everything else
- The other leg, the other arm, the trunk. Nothing is left to fade while one part catches up.
- Control before speed
- Balance, slowing down and landing come first. Speed and impact come when your clinician says so.
- The ordinary things
- Stairs, slopes, getting up off the floor, a full day on your feet. We train those on purpose.
By joint
Start with the one that brought you here
Knee
ACL reconstruction, meniscus surgery, a knee replacement, or osteoarthritis with no surgery at all.
Training after knee surgeryBack, shoulder, hip, ankle
The same rules. Tell us what your clinician has cleared, and we start there.

Five things we never do
- Diagnose an injury.
- Treat one.
- Overrule your surgeon or physiotherapist.
- Decide when you go back to your sport.
- Push through a set that looks wrong.
Registered massage therapists work in the same building, booked separately. Infrared sauna and cold plunge are included with training.
