Hybrid race training in downtown Vancouver
Coached 1-on-1 or 2-on-1. One coach, one or two athletes, at 420 West Hastings, a block from Gastown.
The race is not lost on the sled. It is lost on the run after it.
What the race asks
Eight 1 km runs, a station after each.
Ski machine, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, weighted lunges, wall balls. The hard part is all of them in a row.
- Ski machine and rower
- A monitor records every split.
- Sled push and pull
- On our turf, with the loads adjusted for the surface.
- Carries, broad jumps, wall balls
- Farmers carry, burpee broad jumps and wall balls, built up to race volume in shuttles across our turf.
- Lunges and runs
- Lunges with a weighted bag. Runs outside, or on a self-powered curved treadmill.
How we train it
Station by station, back from race day.
- Running on tired legs
- Every station is paired with a run, and we measure your fresh kilometre against the one after the sled. Closing that gap is the program.
- A block built back from race day
- You start with a station test. Your coach finds your two weakest stations, gives each an accessory, sets brick paces at goal pace, and builds a wall-ball plan below failure.
- Every set rated
- Your coach rates every set and adjusts the next one, in the session, not at the end of the week.
- Recovery in the room
- Infrared sauna and cold plunge are included with training. Our in-house clinic is in the same building if you need it, booked separately.
Who coaches it. David, a strength and conditioning coach here, played receiver and safety at the University of Toronto. He has coached hundreds of hybrid fitness racers and built a race program from the ground up at his previous gym. With you, he works back from race day, station by station.
